Good Morning SOB

Where old threads go to die

I didn't. :loly

There was a celebration this morning at which the horses and tractors were blessed at a church nearby. I had forgotten to take my hat and had left my gloves at work so I was cold all the time. Not that I'm such a religious person but it's part of my heritage after all.

Then I went to a few people of the band to practice a little dance we'll be doing at Burn's Night in January. We're going to start with a scottish traditional dance but will only do a few steps before we're going to do our own version of the French Can Can. Should be fun to watch once we're in the costumes. LOL!

In the meanwhile, it had started to snow seriously and covered everything in a ten centimeter thick blanket of white. Mom came to pick me up and we drove home very carefully. I probably could've walked faster than we drove but safety was more important on the slippery roads.

Hope you all managed to stay warm!

Lizzie

Lizzie, will you be doing the cancan in kilts? What about the big hairy men? We will of course need photographic evidence...

Lol, no, we won't be doing the cancan in kilts but will try to make or rent something that should look like cancan dresses. The big hairy men will be replaced by one broad yet short and hairy man and one taller, thin bloke with a bit of a goofy face. They're going to wear a black suit and a hat.

You'll have to wait until at least the 24th of January for the photographical evidence unless we'd be able to take pictures at the rehearsals.

Your life sounds so different from ours, all the snow and the kilts...
we are still going out in Tshirts these days (and light jackets in the evenings till it gets colder).

I started my new job. It is a difficult beginning, but I began enjoying some of it already.
I take the little kids to a small room and they can draw or paint whatever they like, talk about their art if they like, and usually emotional stuff comes out of this special intimacy, whether they know it or not... these are kids with special needs, some don't talk at all, some have other communication and physical difficulties... The whole education system has problems and in one school I still haven't found a suitable room to work in, but it will be OK.

But the main event is gonna be tomorrow - RUFUS WAINWRIGHT is giving a concert in Tel Aviv and I go with hubby and with Noga (who knows all of his songs, even though she can't understand everything, thank god, LOL).
I wonder if we'll go the the back door and take photos with him... like I've enviously seen so many of you do with other celebs...

Last night I didn't go to rehearsal because the roads were all frozen solid and I would need to cross four bridges to get there so I stayed home for once. Today, I had to cancel my rehearsal too because I'm rather ill. I've been nauseous since I left work, only ate a couple of slices of toast and spent most of the evening on the sofa. Now I've just been sick and my stomach seems to have settled a little.

I only hope I'll be in a reasonable shape by tomorrow as I have a job interview in the morning. So, please, girls, would you be so kind to think of me at 9:30 am your time? If this goes well, I have one chance out of sixteen to get out of that hellhole. Luckily, I have a good friend who already works there and has put in a few good words for me. Now it's just fingers crossed and hoping I won't throw up all over them. LOL! :yuk

Well, I'm not sure what to think of the whole new job thingie now. The interview went well enough but only then I found out it would be only temporarily! The lady who's job I'd be taking is now in Spain but nobody knows whether or not she might be returning. :argh OK, I could take a year's leave off of my current job if they'd already allow it but can you imagine what kind of situation you'd then return to?

On the other side, I've entered for an exam they'll hold somewhere next year for an upgrade at my current job. It'll take me to another level which means more money. It might also mean that in order to fill in the then vacant places, I could get transferred more easily. That's it if I pass.

So now at the moment I'm not sure as to what I should do if they offer me the job. Take it and risk unemployment in a year from now or stay at the current one where I have a fair chance of increasing my pay??

Merlin, I hate those kind of decisions.... :eek :help

Did you make a decision Lizzie?

I've had a busy couple of days. Tuesday night 12 of us went to the Medieval Banquet at St Katherine's Dock (near the Tower of London) which was great fun, lots of medieval entertainment, jousting knights and Henry 8th etc.

Last night SD & I went to see Simply Red at the O2 centre, which was my Christmas pressie to SD.

Today we spent the morning putting up the Christmas tree and the decorations. Whilst typing this I have just heard a noise which sounds like the lights round the window falling down, so I guess I am now going to have to put those back up again!

SD is at the hospital having a scan on his liver :eek The doctor has picked something strange up on his liver during a routine check up so I'm just waiting to go and pick him up and hoping it's nothing serious :cry

Hey Lise, I hope SD's liver will turn out alright. Is there something specific the doctor was thinking about or just a test?

I've only just today found out that I'm the first candidate so if I want, I have the job. I'm still not sure though as it's still a one year contract and I'm not inclined to give up a 'solid' job with a chance of a pay raise if I'd pass the exam next year. There are so many 'if's in this story and it annoys me. Now I've sent back an e-mail to ask about payment and time off.

I don't know if you guys have a word for my specific contract. When I first started there, I had a period of six months in which they can easily fire you. Then you're simply there on contract but I'm one of the standard crew now. After an exam, you become an official employee (with a reference in the Belgian journal of state) and it becomes very hard to fire me. Have any words for this? LOL.

Hope you're all well!

Lise, I hope SD is okay.

I went Christmas shopping with my husband on Monday. I should know never to do this. He looked around a few shops and then said that he thought we could find the gifts we wanted cheaper somewhere else. I expressed my belief that we were actually out to *buy* gifts, not just to look and he said that he thought it would be a nice day out for us. :argh I could have stayed home and ordered everything on line as I did last year.

Any how, I made him buy me lunch so it wasn't a complete disaster and we did buy a few gifts for the kids. :D Now I just need to wrap everything.

Lois had her acting class showcase last weekend. She did very well considering she had to learn extra lines 30 minutes before the performance due to one of the other kids being ill. Next Tuesday I have Finley's Christmas show at school and Lois's school show the following Monday. I still need to make a costume for Lois's show. :::Sigh::: I hate the last two weeks of school, it's always so busy.

Weather permitting we are going to the Hyde Park Winter Wonderland on Sunday.

Have a great weekend everyone.

Hello there -

The Rufus concert was wonderful! he brought his mother Kate and the sang some songs together, joking and making funny mistakes, as if we were all in their private salon. All our music journalists were thrilled with Rufus, even though many people did not even know who he was before he came here.
We did not wait at the back door because it was late and Noga had school in the morning.. I'm sure she is his youngest fan in the whole world.

I'm adjusting to my new work, sometimes it is fun and sometimes I hardly know what to do at all...

I wish you ladies an easy pre-Christmas time, and to finally find agreeable jobs...
